Landscape Architecture

From 1969 to 2014, Lois Sherr Dubin was principal in her own landscape architectural firms with offices in Manhattan and Santa Monica:

• Lois Sherr Landscape Architect
• Luis Villa/Lois Sherr Associated
• Sherr and Wagner Landscape Architects

All were professional corporations of landscape architects and architects, experienced in all aspects of site planning and design. She strove to produce work that joined divergent elements into a cohesive and attractive whole.

The predominant focus was to create clear, tight designs where the practical and the beautiful coexisted. This was accomplished in a wide range of national and international projects (from intimate gardens through larger-scale master plans), often in collaboration with prominent local and national architectural firms.

The Franklin D. Roosevelt
Four Freedoms State Park
New York, NY

This memorial park, designed by Louis I. Kahn, was completed in 2012, forty years after it was originally conceived. Ms. Dubin was part of the original design team in 1974. A major component of her work in the latest construction phase (2008 through 2012) was to ensure that Kahn’s original design intent from the granite walls and paving details to the spacing and selection of trees remained intact.

The second is freedoms of every person to worship god in his own way – everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want… everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear… anywhere in the world. That is no vision of a distant millennium. It is a definite basis for a kind of world attainable in our own time and generation.

University & Corporate Design

Ms. Dubin's work includes completed designs for university campuses, corporations, parks, museums, public housing and private residences throughout the United States, Canada and the Middle East. Among these are: the Salk Institute addition, La Jolla; Mission Park Residential Housing, Williams College, Williamstown, Mass.; the Student Union at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh; AT&T Longline Headquarters, Bedminster, N.J and a 500 acre university campus in Iran.
